Student Residential Living Program

The Academy provides an environment for students to develop mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally into responsible adults. The home life setting is similar to a family situation but on a larger scale. Every effort is made for students to have social activities and developmental experiences that approximate those offered at home. Children and adolescents live in cottage settings and are placed in small family-type units by sex, chronological age, ability, and social maturity. Seven separate housing units exist for students. Children and young adults who have reached their junior or senior year in high school may have an opportunity to live in a semi-independent living residence as a transition step from cottage life to independence.

The recreational opportunities aspect of campus life endeavors to provide social, cultural and enrichment opportunities to students. Both on and off campus activities are planned. Special emphasis is given to organizing after school and weekend activities which are supplemented by athletic competition and teacher- sponsored social activities. A variety of leisure, social, and recreational activities are available for students in the afternoon and evenings. Students may participate in different activities on and off campus, including scouting, 4-H, and Special Olympics. Study hall is held Monday through Thursday nights for appropriate students from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The Health Services Program is an adjunct to the Home Life activities and functions to meet medical, dental, and other health care needs of students. Nurses are available during school and residential hours.
